Desmond’s Diary

This is my first post, but not really sure what I’m supposed to do. Colin asked me if I would like to be a guest blogger, what ever that is, as he reckons it will raise my profile a little. Problem is, I’m not sure if I want my profile rising at all. Need to keep my head down! He’s a mate, we go back a long way so I’ll do this blogging thing for a few weeks and see how it goes, but I will want to keep my profile low, just in case.

All Colin said to do was write about the highlights of my sales week and so I’m stumped right away with highlights! The only highlights I’ve seen this week was on one of my customer’s heads. Well, I really mean on the head of one of my customer’s, as he didn’t have two heads, thank goodness. One mouth was more than I could stand, two would have been dreadful!

I suppose the good thing for Colin is that he isn’t in our company yet. We use a world wide outfit that does the same for us all over the world so no chance of him getting in. I suppose whoever made the choice to pay trucks loads of money for some sales training won’t admit they made a mistake, so we are stuck with it. Just as well Firstborder aren’t in then I don’t have to perjure myself by saying its good stuff – joking Colin – honestly!

So what happened this week?

Monday.
Had to go to a customer to sort out support issues. Not my job, but if I didn’t step in then the customer would have gone ballistic. My job’s to be out with customers selling, not sorting out service issues. Well, I did it, right mess it was too. They really don’t like our new service people – can’t blame them either anyone who makes my life harder really is not on my Christmas list.

Tuesday.
Accounts finally caught up with me. Spent the whole day filling in paperwork to reclaim expenses for last quarter. Seems they are cracking down on expenses. Anyhow, spent all day on it.

Wednesday.
Marketing had sorted out some new sales leads for me. I had to drive halfway across the country, got there and the chap I was to see wasn’t there. Some sort of mix up apparently. The number of times this has happened, it’s unbelievable. Wasted the whole day in the car, but it got me out of the office. Still, nearly got a speeding ticket racing back for the football.

Thursday.
Managed to see a potential customer. Nice people, really nice people. Got on really well with the IT Manager – let’s call him BK. Had a great chat about the football, seems we have something in common. I think we both agreed that England did not do that well the previous evening. New England manager, not much progress really. Bit like my new manager, they come in, do little and then get fired for poor results. Can’t blame the troops can you. We’re good, highly paid individuals and if the manager can’t get the best out of us, then he’s no good is he!

Friday.
Last day of the quarter. Wouldn’t believe it with the week I have had. Should have been out there closing business, but as I made my number a couple of weeks ago and gone past my accelerator cap, didn’t want to close too much as next quarter is going to be tough. Hard job trying to convince customer Y that I could not process their order until Monday. Had to tell them the computer has gone down, but rest assured it will be up Monday. I think they believed me. No rugby this weekend and no motor racing so not much to do down the pub other than drink. Hard life, but someone has to do it!

Monday’s going to be a new week, a new quarter and I’ve already got my first order!
